Ultrabooks

The world on electronics and the particularly the part that revolves around computing is in a rapid flux of change and the latest trend that is predicted is a phenomenon called Ultrabooks. If you are anything like me you would have said to yourself what are Ultrabooks. And since nobody that I knew had the faintest idea I decided to go out and find some information for myself and why Intel was predicting that these new machines will capture 40% of the laptop market by as soon as the end of 2012.

Is this possible and why do they think that people will be so willing to change to Ultrabooks. Do they know something that we don’t know? Lets have a look at the available information.

What are Ultrabooks?

The question about what are Ultrabooks turned out to be not so easy to answer, as there seems to be a lot of different ideas in the marketplace and even with providers themselves as to Ultrabooks definition. Here are some of the features of Ultrabooks of course taking into account that they will vary according to the manufacturer:

#1 Feature: They are more like a net book than a regular laptop.

#2 Feature: They should be not in excess of 21mm thick;

#3 Feature: Apparently they need to run on an Intel core low voltage processor to be eligible to be considered Ultrabooks;

#4 Feature: Ultrabooks should have Intel rapid start technology as one of their operating features. Rapid start technology enables the Ultrabooks to be able to wake up and boot faster from a state of hibernation;

#5 Feature: Installed hardware that supports the differing types of anti theft and securities options that are available for portable computing;

#6 Feature: The price point of Ultrabooks should be less that $1000;

#7 Feature: Ultrabooks will apparently have batteries that are fixed;

These were the basics of the Ultrabooks features and they sounded pretty cool to me and like something that would be really handy especially when I traveled and since I was in the market for a new computer to take with me for work I started to think that Ultrabooks may just be the perfect option for me.

As I am a travel writer I thought that before I spend my hard earned on Ultrabooks I talked to one of the leading manufacturers of Ultrabooks and convinced them that it was in their best interest to let someone like me try it out and they actually lent me one of their latest Ultrabooks to try out on a 2 week trip that I was going on across country.

I was traveling by train and blogging on the way so a good machine that was lightweight and compact seemed like a great place to start – so I packed the latest model of Ultrabooks into my backpack and set off on my newest adventure.

The passing view outside the window was fantastic, I was getting to see some of the most beautiful countryside while I worked and not for the first time I stopped and appreciated how fortunate I was to get paid for my writing and I got to travel as well.

Anxious to capture the feeling of the moment I opened up the latest of the Ultrabooks and booted it up to start writing my latest blog immediately noticing how quick that it was to load and it was ready in moments. So different from my regular laptop that I would turn on, boil the kettle, make a coffee and then it would be ready for me to log in.

So the Ultrabooks performance already was getting a big smile from me though its slim appearance meant that it slid into my pack without taking up much room and didn’t add a great deal of additional weight either. Both of the Ultrabooks features were great plusses for me.

I wrote my blog and when I was almost finished I noticed the girl across from me watching me (she was very cute too). When I looked at her she asked what was I using and indicated the Ultrabooks casing. I told her it was one of the new Ultrabooks about to hit the market and she moved over next to me and asked me if she could take a look at the Ultrabooks features.

I said sure and walked her through all of the Ultrabooks features and showed her all of the awesome things that it could do. After we finished looking at the Ultrabooks bits and pieces we talked about lots of things including traveling and the favorite places that we had been.

It turned out that we were both staying at the same town overnight and we ended up booking into the same motel and talking half of the night – we had so much in common. When I finally wandered back to my room in the early hours of the morning after the most interesting and stimulating conversation that I had engaged in with anyone let alone a member of the opposite sex for a long time.

I felt light and dreamy and my heart was racing and I wondered what that meant. I let myself into my room and saw the Ultrabooks on the bed and I had to myself. A great little machine and now I could add helping me meet a fabulous woman to its list of awesome features.
